LAS VEGAS, NM- The Cougars started RMAC play on the road as they traveled to New Mexico on Friday night. In a tight battle, CCU fell to the Cowboys by a final score of 72-63.
Noah Kon got the spring started for his team with a jumper as Colorado Christian looked to get off to a fast start. A three-point play from Bradley Land got the offense going, while Jacob Everson connected from downtown to give his team the lead. Nic Zeil drilled back-to-back threes midway through the quarter as his team went ahead 20-18.
The hosts went on a run in the final nine minutes of the half, but Brenden Patrick was able to keep his team close with a jumper and three-pointer late as the score stood at 34-32 Cowboys at the half.
The hosts quickly built a ten point lead, but Schafer Reichart cut into it with a three. Kon and Patrick scored five quick points to tighten the gap to six, while Zeil connected on yet another shot from beyond the arc to make it a four point game midway through the second half.
Patrick got a jumper to fall to cut the deficit to just two with seven minutes remaining, but unfortunately that was as close as the Cougars would get in the half. NMHU closed strong from there, eventually pulling away for the 72-63 victory.
The Cougars saw three players in double digits for scoring as Kon posted 15 points, followed by Zeil with 14 and Patrick with 13. Zeil also led in rebounds with seven, while Reichart paced the team with four assists.
Colorado Christian will be back in action on December 2 as they head to CSU Pueblo with tipoff slated for 6 p.m. MST.
