After an exciting opening game, the baseball team continued their road trip in Florida as they squared off against #22 ranked Nova Southeastern University. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead 6-2 after three innings of play, and held on to secure the victory by a final score of 7-6.

The Cougars got off to a great start as they tallied two runs in each of the first three innings to take a 6-2 lead after three innings of play.
Gabe Ramos got the scoring off to a start as he singled home the first run of the game in the first inning, and later came home to score on a wild pitch.
Kade Carney and
Caden Walton got into the act in the second inning as they each tallied RBI base hits. Carney once again came up in the third with two runners on and connected for another base hit to score two more runs.

Things tightened up in the middle innings as Nova tallied a single run in the fifth inning, followed by a pair of runs in the seventh to cut the CCU lead down to just one at 6-5. However, a
Frankie Shearn RBI single extended the Cougars lead to 7-5 heading into the bottom of the eighth. The Sharks answered back in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 7-6 game heading into the final inning of play.

The Cougars had their closer
JC Watne on the mound who came in relief in the seventh inning and finished up the game. Watne struck out the final batter of the game to secure the first victory of the season for CCU while also earning his first save of the year.

The top of the Cougars lineup provided the offense early on as
Caden Walton went 2-5 with an RBI,
Frankie Shearn went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored and
Gabe Ramos went 2-3 with two runs scores and an RBI.
Cole Kennedy picked up the win on the mound as he threw three innings striking out five batters, and
JC Watne collected the save going 2 and 2/3 innings allowing just two hits.

This marks the first victory of the year for the team after recording a tie in yesterday's game. They are now 1-0-1 on the year. Their road trip continues tomorrow in Florida as they will take on Barry University at 9AM MST. That game will be taking place in Miami Shores, FL.
