LAKEWOOD, CO – Today we look beyond the jersey of Silas Hess, who has not only excelled on the soccer field but also as an entrepreneur. Hess, a junior midfielder from Bemidji, Minnesota, is a key player for the CCU Men's Soccer team and was instrumental in the team's historically successful season. However, what not everyone knows is that Hess is also the founder of a clothing line called "dusty".



Hess has always had a passion for fashion and decided to turn his love for clothing into a business idea. His clothing line, "dusty", features a range of comfortable and simple apparel that is popular among his peers at CCU. Hess founded "Dusty" in 2020, and has since grown the brand through hard work and dedication, alongside his busy schedule as a student-athlete. This past year Si has found it difficult to continue to grow and promote his brand but said, "When I become more financially stable I will make sure to continue on with this passion and build up my brand beyond CCU".



"I've always had a love for fashion, and starting my own clothing line has been a dream come true," said Hess. "It hasn't been easy balancing soccer and running a business, but I've learned a lot about time management and discipline. I'm grateful for the support of my teammates, coaches, and the CCU community, who have encouraged me to pursue my passions both on and off the field."



Hess's entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to his craft have not gone unnoticed. It is common that you will see someone repping a 'dusty' sweatshirt as you walk around campus. Hess did mention there was no significant meaning behind the word, but just thought with the right font it could be an appealing and affordable sweatshirt for all people. It accomplishes this look with the word 'dusty' across the chest in all lower case letters. The brand has a number of colors available. 



"Silas is a true inspiration to us all," said CCU Men's Soccer Head Coach, Brad Camp. "He's not only a talented athlete, but also a savvy entrepreneur who has shown what can be accomplished with hard work and perseverance. We're proud to have him on our team, and we can't wait to see what he achieves next both on and off the field."



As a Christian university, CCU encourages their athletes to explore all avenues that may peak their interest and not limit themselves to being only an athlete. We encourage all of our student athletes to find their niche beyond the jersey. Silas is a perfect example of what this can look like. He has managed to be a successful soccer player and find time to run a business on the side that allows him to branch out to more people in the CCU community than just athletes.
