Trusting the Lord is not always easy, but it is the foundation of a life rooted in peace, purpose, and unwavering hope, even in the face of uncertainty, and Coach
Davon Jackson has had the opportunity to experience that trust firsthand, all while witnessing the goodness of the Lord unfold in his own moments of doubt and challenges.
Â
Jackson grew up in a Christian household, attending church regularly while also moving between different towns and schools. This lifestyle of constant change taught him early on the importance of trusting in the Lord, especially in moments of uncertainty when the outcome was unclear, and the next step was unknown. After completing his collegiate career, Jackson returned to his alma mater to coach, where later he would be given the opportunity to interview for the men's basketball assistant coach position at CCU.

Â
"Going through the interview process, I loved it here, and it was a big step in my coaching career. This would be my first major job move," Jackson explained as he reflected on his hiring experience. But before receiving the job offer, Jackson faced the difficult task of telling his current team about his potential departure, all while uncertain of whether or not he would even get the job. "That was God telling me, 'You don't know when you're gonna get the job offer, you don't even know if you're gonna get the job offer, but take this step, and I will help you from there," Jackson shared. It was a defining moment that taught him to trust God in every circumstance, and he now sees it as a powerful testimony of faith—of stepping out in uncertainty, knowing that the Lord would lead him every step of the way.
While everything seemed to align in his favor, the real uncertainty came in what he was leaving behind: moving across the country to take on a new job in a place where he knew no one. It meant leaving behind friends, familiar surroundings, the comfort of the known. The leap wasn't just a career move—it was a step into the unknown, driven by a deep trust in God's plan.

Building a new life from scratch was daunting enough, but the hardest decision he had to make was leaving behind the most important person in his life—his wife, his other half.
Jackson's wife is currently in her junior year of nursing back in New York, at the same school Jackson previously coached at. "This was another very tough decision to make, but again, it all came back to trusting in the Lord," Jackson explained. "When we thought about it, our mindset was, 'You're working on chasing your dream, I'm working on chasing mine, and when we come back together, we'll be better than when we left each other.' It wasn't a selfish mindset; it was more about both of us being able and capable to chase our dreams while we had the chance.'
Â
Jackson shared that, despite the distance, this time apart has actually allowed their relationship to grow stronger—not just between the two of them, but also in their faith. "The Lord has taught us to trust—trust in each other and trust in Him," Jackson reflected. "We are constantly discussing how we can become better followers of Christ and keeping our relationship centered around Him." This intentional focus on faith has not only strengthened their bond but has also deepened their commitment to growing together spiritually, no matter the physical distance between them.
Â
Since arriving at CCU, Jackson says his relationship with the Lord has deepened, especially in the area of trust. "I've always wanted to do everything on my own, but I've had to learn to step back and trust the Lord—even when I don't fully understand what He's guiding me to do. I'm constantly reminding myself to take that next step in faith and trust Him."
Lincoln Cantrall, a freshman on the team, shared how Jackson has influenced him both on and off the court: "He's a true man of God, and I see that in the way he walks, talks, and moves every day. He holds all of us accountable and integrates faith into everything we discuss. It's been incredibly helpful as I continue on my path as a follower of Christ."

Jackson shared that throughout this journey, he's embraced the role of servant leader—serving his players and coaching staff, striving to be the best role model and coach he can be. He's also become a better husband and, most importantly, a servant to the Highest King who has planned every step of his life. Jackson is humbled by the opportunity to lay everything at God's feet and trust Him completely.
