MONMOUTH, OR- The Cougars opened their season on Friday with a neutral site matchup against St. Martin's University in Oregon on Friday. It was a battle throughout, but a second half goal from the Saints led to a 1-0 defeat for CCU.
The first half was primarily defensive as the two teams did not get off an abundance of shots. The Saints had a few looks early, but they sailed over the target and did not threaten the Cougars. Danel Hach got off a shot late in the half, forcing a save from the SMU keeper as the teams went to the half scoreless.
The two teams battled into the second half, and Capri Dewing took a shot that did not find the mark 20 minutes into the half. The Saints then struck in the 68th minute to take the lead. Despite their best efforts, the Cougars could not muster up a goal late as they fell by a final score of 1-0.
Colorado Christian will look to take down the hosts Western Oregon University on September 3 with kickoff slated for 3 p.m. MST.
