Cougars Ride Two Wonderstrikes to First Victory of the Season

LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian hosted their second home game of the season at Trailblazer Stadium on Friday morning against Eastern new Mexico University. Two incredible goals sent CCU to a 2-0 victory to mark the inaugural win for first year Head Coach Anne Metz.

The first half started off fast as the Cougars provided immediate pressure offensively. Capri Dewing got off a shot on goal under a minute into the contest, but the shot was saved by the Greyhounds keeper. The shots continued to come as Dinverno forced two saves. Danel Hach then struck in the 31st minute with an absolute rocket of a goal. The freshman saw the ball come out of the box on a deflection off an ENMU defender and one-timed it from distance into the bottom right corner of the goal to put the Cougars ahead in incredible fashion. It was the first collegiate goal for Hach, and one she will certainly remember. A few more shots went on goal from Dewing and Kiana Fen, but the teams went to the half with a 1-0 CCU lead.

Looking to double their lead in the second half, Hach nearly had another identical goal but it was saved by Samantha Jeffries for the Greyhounds. Then in the 63rd minute, Zoe Sims saw an opportunity and did not miss. With the Cougars pressing defensively, Sims read a pass that was heading upfield and stole it in the attacking third. After several dribbles, Sims unleashed a laser from outside the box that tucked underneath the diving keeper for a 2-0 advantage. It was all CCU from there as they took many more shots and kept possession of the ball offensively for a majority of the second period. The final horn sounded on the first win of the Anne Metz era, a quality 2-0 team win on Friday over Eastern New Mexico.

Ireland Jeffrey was stellar in goal, keeping a clean sheet for the win. Defensively, the back line was dominant as they allowed just one shot the entire game. The offense was pressuring all day long, with 20 shots total and 11 on goal. It was a cleanly played game with just 12 total fouls and no cards given.

Colorado Christian improves to 1-2-1 on the season as they head to Adams State on September 17 at 1 p.m. MST in a non-conference matchup against the Grizzlies.
