ALAMOSA, CO- Colorado Christian headed south to take on Adams State in a non-conference matchup on Sunday. A strong effort put the Cougars ahead early, and a second half goal led the way in a 2-1 victory that marked the second straight win for the team.
It was a furious start from the offense for CCU, as Allie Hotz forced a save just a few minutes in. With less than four minutes having elapsed, Alaina Kregel set up Capri Dewing, and the junior connected to give her team an early lead. The teams traded shots from there, but in the 24th minute the Grizzlies leveled the match with a penalty kick goal to make it 1-1. CCU continued to pressure, as Dewing forced two saves while Jessie Sims and Kiley Connery had a shot on goal apiece that was saved. The two teams battled their way to the half with the score deadlocked at 1-1.
Knowing they were on the front foot, the Cougars continued to pressure in the second half. Their hard work paid off in the 76th minute when Dewing set up Jessie Sims for a strike that found the back of the net for a 2-1 advantage for the visitors. The Grizzlies got off several more shots, but keeper Ireland Jeffrey saved both to seal the 2-1 victory for her team.
The offense was clicking all day, notching 18 shots with 11 of those being on goal. Jeffrey tallied four saves as she helped her team to the win.
Colorado Christian will now head north to take on Black Hills State on September 21 at 4 p.m. MST.
