CCU Drop RMAC Opener at Black Hills State

LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars headed to South Dakota to open RMAC play at Black Hills State on Thursday. In a tight battle throughout, the Yellowjackets were able to push one across in the second half as Colorado Christian fell 1-0.

Right away the hosts began to pressure, forcing three early saves from keeper Alana Lopp. Alaina Kregel got off the first shot on target for her team in the 15th minute, but it was saved by the BHSU goalie. Justine Moreau forced another save in the 32nd as the looks began to increase for the Cougars. Ava Dinverno forced one more save as the two teams went to the half scoreless.

Capri Dewing began the second half with a shot on goal, but again the Black Hills State keeper was up to the challenge. In the 74th minute, the Yellowjackets turned defense into offense as a ball was stolen and lofted over the defense of the Cougars onto a running striker who was able to get past Lopp and put the ball into the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage. Despite their best efforts, CCU was unable to create any more threats sas they fell in the end by a score of 1-0.

The Cougars totaled  13 shots, with 5 of those being on goal. Lopp tallied six savers for her team, while CCU had the only three corners of the game.

Colorado Christian will return home on September 24 to take on Regis University at 1 p.m. MST.
