DENVER, CO – The Colorado Christian University Cougars traveled into the city to start their RMAC campaign at MSU Denver on Friday evening. The Roadrunners could not be stopped, dealing CCU the loss in three sets.
The first set started with the Roadrunners holding onto the lead to the end. The Cougars were able to rally back and keep the score close, but after a couple of runs near the end MSU Denver won 25-19. Set two started much like the first, with the Roadrunners taking the lead and not looking back. The Roadrunners took over the net, putting up a wall and only giving up two hitting errors to win set two 25-14. The third set saw the Cougars get into more of their rhythm, tallying their most kills and points. The Roadrunners and Cougars traded leads to start, but MSU Denver followed with a strong run to go ahead by 5 before CCU could stop them. The Cougars retaliated with their own run as their offense came alive, tying it up at 21s. Despite the strong come back, MSU Denver only allowed one more point from CCU afterwards and won the set 25-22 to take the match in three.
Leading the Cougars in kills was
Alli Douglass who tallied 9, followed by
Libby Goodman and
Renee Phillips with 5 each.
Lilly Woods and
Connelly Kilgore followed with 4 a piece.
Izzy Jones dealt 23 assists.
