WICHITA, KS- The Cougars headed to Kansas to take on Newman University for their second matchup of the season. It was a hotly contested match that featured a total of 10 yellow cards and two reds, but in the end neither team came out on top in a 0-0 draw.
The first half saw the two teams play strong defense, but CCU had a look in the 31st as Corey Smith put a shot on goal that was saved by the Jets keeper. The half was physical and each team was aggressive on the pitch as three yellow cards were handed out in the scoreless half.
The second half got even more chippy as the two teams battled for an advantage. Gabe Roloff put a shot on goal in the 56th, and Adrien Diez also was able to put a shot on frame minutes later, but neither found the back of the net. In the 63rd the Jets had their keeper sent off with a red after a dangerous challenge, forcing in a new player between the posts. However, both teams continued to battle and neither could score in the hotly contested match.
The Cougars record now sits at 0-0-2 as they head to William Jewell College (Mo.) on September 9 to take on the Cardinals at 2 p.m. MST.
