LIBERTY, MO- The Cougars took on William Jewell College on Saturday in Missouri, and from the start the outcome was clear. CCU used two early goals as they kept a clean sheet for the third straight game in a 3-0 victory for their first win of the season.
After having not scored in their first two games, the Cougars came out firing as AJ Gamueda changed that statistic with a breakaway goal five minutes into the contest. Freshman Devin Najarro doubled the lead with another goal in the 19th minute as CCU took full control of the game. The Cardinals had a few shots in the half, and keeper Michel Pinoncely made a save to send the teams to the break with a 2-0 advantage for the visitors.
Colorado Christian got off to a fast start in the second half, as Drew Brown tallied his first goal as a Cougar on the assist from Najarro. With the 3-0 lead in hand, the defense buckled down and Pinoncely needed to make two more saves to close out his third straight clean sheet.
CCU took 11 shots throughout the contest, with five of those going on goal. Najarro tallied two points as he scored and tallied an assist on the day.
With a record of 1-0-2, CCU now heads to Oregon to take on Saint Martin's University in a neutral site matchup on September 14 at 3:30 p.m. MST.
