DENVER, CO- Colorado Christian headed 6.3 miles up the road to Denver to take on Regis on Friday in an important RMAC tilt. The teams battled back and forth, but the hosts ended up on top in a close 71-63 affair.
The Rangers took a quick 4-0 lead, but the Cougars responded with layups from Schafer Reichart and Shaylen Woodberry. The defenses set in from there, and Jacob Everson hit a jumper to make it 11-7. Regis got their offense going from there, taking a 16-7 lead midway through the half.
Bradley Land connected from deep to tighten the gap and Everson nailed a jumper to make it a two-point game. The Rangers offense started to find a rhythm from there, and they took a 30-19 lead into the half.
The Cougars got to work in the second half with jumpers from Land and Noah Kon to cut the gap to seven. CCU continued to chip away at the lead, as a Land layup made the deficit just six at 47-41 with ten minutes to play.
Nic Zeil hit a massive three as the lead stood at just three, but the Rangers again responded. The hosts extended their lead to nine and continued to hold a six to nine point lead heading into the final minutes. Kon made it a four-point gap with a jumper as the Cougars sought to find their way back into things. However, Regis closed strong and claimed the hard-fought victory 71-63.
Kon paced the offense with 16 points and four assists, while Zeil dropped 12 points with a block and steal. Everson and Land joined them in double-digit scoring with 11 and 10 points respectively, while Land impressed with a trio of steals.
The Cougars return to action at UCCS on January 27 at 7 p.m. MST at the Gallogly Events Center.
