PUEBLO, CO- The Cougars continued their road trip south to Pueblo against the #9 ranked Thunderwolves from CSU Pueblo on Sunday afternoon. After a tightly contested game, the Cougars couldn't pull out a result, falling short to the Thunderwolves in defeat 1-0.
The Cougars started the match with a shot from
Daniel Garciacano, but he just missed his target wide of the goal. The hosts would get their chance with a corner kick but it was cleared away by the CCU defense. The Thunderwolves would continue their attack and would get help on a throw in to get the early goal and 1-0 lead. Five minutes would pass before
Arthur Santana would take a strike towards the top corner of the goal but it would go wide. The Thunderwolves took another attempt at goal, but
Jailon Gillespie read the shot well to make the save. Both teams kept the intensity on until the halftime whistle blew with CSUP leading 1-0.Â
The Thunderwolves kept the pressure on CCU with more shots in the early minutes of the second half but couldn't take advantage. Gillespie would make two diving saves to keep the Cougars within grasping reach of the hosts.
Tiago Gomes would get a chance at goal with a shot but couldn't put the ball in the goal. CCU would make multiple substitutions to keep fresh legs on the field and try to tire CSUP. Unfortunately, the nationally ranked team held on until the final whistle as CSUP defeated the Cougars 1-0.
Colorado Christian will take time to regather before going back on the road October 18 to face off against Colorado Mesa University at 4:00 p.m. MST.
