GOLDEN, CO- The Cougars headed to nearby Golden on Friday night as they took on #1 nationally ranked Colorado School of Mines under the lights. On a night with cold temperatures and wet weather, the nationals top ranked team showed they were worthy of that ranking as they defeated CCU by a score 5-0.
Hannah Mares got off an early shot, and
Alana Lopp made a save in the beginning stages of the game to keep things level. Noelle Mongo then missed just high and to the right, and the Orediggers then found a way to break through for a goal and 1-0 lead. An intercepted pass led to a quickfire goal moments later as Mines found themselves up two goals in a matter of seconds. The half came to a close with a two goal lead for the hosts.
CSM came out firing in the second half with a quick goal to make it 3-0, and Mingo tallied another shot that forced a save from the Orediggers keeper. A goal in the 62nd pushed the advantage to 4-0, and Mines continued the pressure with one last goal in the 78th to send the game to its; final score of 5-0.
CCU head to Adams State on October 20 for a matchup with the Grizzlies at 11 a.m. MST.
