ALAMOSA, CO- Colorado Christian headed south on Sunday to take on the Grizzlies from Adams State. After conceding in the first half, the Cougars fired off three goals in the second half to secure the win 3-1.
The match started off with the hosts getting a free kick just outside the penalty box, and a great strike from the set piece would find the back of the net to give the Grizzlies an early 1-0 lead. As time went on,
Justine Moreau would have back-to-back shots, but the opposing keeper made two saves. The Cougars managed to get seven shots in the half as
Ava Dinverno would get a chance outside the box that would be saved. That would end the first half of the match with the Grizzlies leading 1-0.
CCU won a corner four minutes into the half and after a scramble in the six-yard box,
Jessie Sims got the last touch to equalize the game 1-1. It would only take a little over a minute for the Cougars to get back on the attack, with
Gabbie Henkle sending a cross to Dinverno, as she juked out a defender and scored her second goal of the season to give CCU the 2-1 lead. It was a dominant offensive performance for CCU, as the ball was played from the wing to
Capri Dewing, and she found Moreau open in the box and tapped the ball in the goal to give CCU the 3-1 advantage. The Grizzlies would try to respond back with a free kick, but
Alana Lopp stood tall in goal to make the comfortable save. As both teams battled hard for every loose ball, the match came to an end with the final whistle and the Cougars emerging victorious 3-1.Â
The win would help the Cougars snap a four game winless streak, and keep them in the hunt for postseason soccer.Â
Colorado Christian will take the full week to recover and return to action in New Mexico to take on New Mexico Highlands on October 27 at 1:00 p.m. MST.
