LAS VEGAS, NM- Colorado Christian headed to New Mexico for their final regular season road game of the year as they took on New Mexico Highlands. It was a dominant display from the Cougars as they scored early and often en route to a 3-0 victory that kept them right in the thick of the playoff hunt in the RMAC.
The offense jumped all over the Cowgirls early as
Capri Dewing applied pressure with a shot and CCU had a pair of corners in the first five minutes.
Ava Dinverno opened up the scoring as she slotted one home a little over five minutes into the contest for the early lead.
Noelle Mingo continued the pressure with a shot and Dinverno later forced a save with a shot on goal. Keeper
Alana Lopp made a save and
Breenalyn Shimabukuro forced a save on the other end in transition. Another Lopp save kept the lead at 1-0, and Dinverno scored her second goal of the first half in the 41st minute as CCU took full control. The half ended with the visitors on top 2-0.Â
The Cowgirls had a good look in the 57th, but the shot hit the top post and went out. In the 68th,
Justine Moreau played a ball to Ella Salsberry who finished beautifully for a goal to put her team on top 3-0. A pair of last gasp attempts from NMHU were saved by Lopp as the Cougars came away with an important 3-0 victory on the road.Â
Dinverno notched her third and fourth goals of the season, while Salsberry scored her first of the year to cap the 3-0 win.Â
Colorado Christian will return home as they take on Fort Lewis on November 1 at 1 p.m. MST.Â
