Cougars Fall in Halloween Matchup with Mines

LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars returned to Trailblazer Stadium on Thursday after a stretch of five straight road games as they took on Colorado School of Mines in a halloween afternoon clash. In a game that was defensive throughout, it was the Orediggers who broke through in the final 10 minutes to secure the 1-0 victory.

The Cougars and Orediggers began on a beautiful fall afternoon by playing some excellent defense to stifle any good chances on goal. Adrian Diez got off a shot but it was collected by the Mines keeper. After CSM missed on a shot, Gabe Roloff got off a shot that went wide. Jailon Gillespie was forced to make a save for CCU late in the half with Mines beginning to pressure a bit more, and the Orediggers final shot of the half went high as the teams went to the break level at 0-0.

Colorado Christian came out in attack mode to begin the second half, getting off a trio of shots from Roloff, Arthur Santana and Lucca Casci. The shot from Casci made its way on goal but was saved by the Mines goalie. Neither team could manage many more looks for a good chunk of time from there as the game began to get more physical as the end drew near. Then in the 82nd, the Orediggers managed to play a ball through that was chipped into the back of the net to give them the 1-0 advantage. CCU fought to get the equalizer in the final minutes of play but could not do so as the game ended with the visitors claiming a 1-0 victory.

Colorado Christian will be back at home on November 3 as they take on crosstown rival MSU Denver at 2 p.m. MST.
