Colorado Christian Roll Past Otters for Seasons' First Victory

SEASIDE, CA- The Cougars made their way to California on Sunday as they took on Cal State Monterey Bay in their third regular season competition of the year. It was an efficient and strong effort from CCU as they took a strong lead into halftime and only grew that over the second half of a 75-52 victory.

CJ Barnes set the tone early as he converted a three-point play, and Bradley Land got a layup to go for a 5-2 lead. Shaylen Woodberry and Bobby McWard connected from downtown to keep the offense rolling, and Jacob Everson drilled a three as the two teams stood tied at 22-22 midway through the half.

Woodberry and Everson continued to stay hot from beyond the arc with a pair of threes, and a Land layup saw the Cougars go ahead 38-23 as the defense put the clamps on. Everson made one more three before the end of the half as CCU went to the break leading 43-29.

McWard continued to fire away from range as he made another three to start the second half, and Barnes converted a pair of layups for the 52-32 lead. The Otters clawed their way back to within ten at 52-42, but that was the closest they would get the rest of the game as Schafer Reichart made a layup as the Cougars took a double digit lead into the final 10 minutes of play.

An onslaught ensued as Tate Odvody nailed a three-pointer and a dunk from Land put all the momentum with CCU. Land and Barnes continued their scoring ways with layups to close out the hosts as it was a dominant victory for the Cougars by a final score of 75-52.

Land led the offense with 20 points while Barnes was stellar with 15 points. McWard was the third scorer in double digits with 10 as he drilled a pair of threes. Reichart and Land pulled down 6 rebounds apiece while Reichart had a team high 5 assists.

CCU will be back in action at home on November 22 as they play host to Barclay College with tipoff set for 7 p.m. MST.
