Colorado Christian Close Four-Game Set with Grizzlies

PUEBLO, CO- The Cougars closed their RMAC series with Adams State with another doubleheader on Monday at Rawlings Field. The first contest was controlled by the Grizzlies, but the second was a battle to the end in a narrow defeat for CCU.

GAME ONE
Adams State got their offense going early and took a 5-0 advantage out of the first. The Cougars responded, as Luke Thompson singled home Kade Carney. Caden Walton followed with a two-run single for a three-run inning for CCU.

Carney remained consistent at the plate, smacking another double to plate Gavin Acosta. Major Maydon tallied an RBI sac fly in the fifth, followed by a two-run single from Jonny Tewinkle. In the end, though, the Grizzlies offense was too strong in a 25-7 setback.

Carney was stellar at the plate, going 3-3 with two doubles and a single with an RBI and a walk drawn.

GAME TWO
The second contest was exciting from the jump as ASU managed to score six in the first. CCU was not swayed and immediately rallied. Carney led off the game with a stand up triple, and he came home to score on an errant throw from the Grizzlies. A Maydon double plated another run, and Tucker Willingham singled in yet another run. Aaron Morgan tripled home two more moments later as the Cougars roared back to tie the game at 6-6.

The Grizzlies managed to score a few more to take control, but CCU never backed down. William Brassil doubled in a run in the fifth, and Sawyer Shepherd notched an RBI double of his own. A Maydon triple scored another as -CCU inched within 11-9. A pair of runs in the seventh from ASU put the game away, but not before Carney picked up another triple to score a run in the seventh in the eventual 13-9 loss.

Carney was once again strong with an RBI and a run scored, while Maydon and Morgan led the offense with a pair of RBI each.

The Cougars will now head to Grand Junction to take on Colorado Mesa in a four-game series beginning March 22 with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. MST.
