Cougars Wrap Up Regular Season Home Slate with Doubleheader Split

LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian played their final pair of home games of the season at All Star Park on Monday against Regis. The pitching was lights out in game one as CCU nabbed an impressive 5-4 win before falling 16-7 in the second contest.

GAME ONE
The Rangers struck first in the second inning, nabbing a pair of singles to take a 2-0 lead. The Cougars immediately responded as Ross Panlasigui notched a sac fly and Caden Walton tied the game by scoring on an error in the second.

Luke Thompson gave his team the lead with an RBI single to close the second. In the third inning, Jonny Tewinkle blasted his third homer in as many games in the series, a solo shot to left center field to give his team a 4-2 lead. The Rangers rallied late for a pair in seventh to tie the game at 4-4, but CCU was not to be denied. Tewinkle remained at the center of the offense, singling to start the eighth before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Major Maydon then smacked the game-winning RBI single as the Cougars held on in the ninth for a big 5-4 victory over the number two team in the RMAC.

Brady Ritzmann was excellent on the mound, getting the start and throwing 6.1 innings with five strikeouts. Saxton Sorenson picked up the win with 2.2 innings of work to close, shutting down the Rangers with no runs or hits allowed.

GAME TWO
Regis once again struck early with two runs in the first. The Cougars came right back, posting a huge first to take the lead. Aaron Morgan and Sawyer Shepherd picked up RBI singles, while Kade Carney notched a bases-loaded walk to give his team a 5-2 advantage.

The Rangers came back to tie the game after three, but Gavin Acosta ripped a two-run single to restore the lead at 7-5. With a two-run lead into the sixth, Regis erupted for a nine-spot to take control of the game. Tucker Willingham recorded an RBI walkout while Carney singled in another, but in the end it was not enough in a 16-9 defeat.

Justin Estrada went five innings on the mound, striking out three batters. Acosta and Carney led the offensive efforts with a pair of RBI apiece.

Colorado Christian will close their season May 3-4 at New Mexico Highlands, with game one on Friday slated for 1 p.m. MST.
