CCU Begin Roadtrip with Draw at Southwest Baptist

BOLIVAR, MO- The Cougars started their road trip on Thursday afternoon as they took on the Bearcats from Southwest Baptist University. After a one goal lead at halftime for the Cougars the second half would see the Bearcats equalize and see the result all the way to the end with a 1-1 draw.

The Bearcats were on the front foot early in the game, forcing Jai Gillespie into making his only save of the game. Senior Lucca Casci would get a shot off as well, giving him one of the six shots the Cougars took in the first half. After almost 20 minutes into the game, Lucas Peruzo received the ball on the wing and dribbled it into the 18 yard box and was tackled and the ref blew his whistle for a penalty kick. Peruzo stepped up with a small stutter kick and sent the goalkeeper to his knees and put the ball in the bottom left corner to take the lead. The Cougars would get multiple chances in the half but the opposing goalie stood tall and made some fantastic saves to take the game into halftime with CCU leading 1-0.

The second half would start off with the home side applying early pressure, winning a corner kick and scoring off a header to level the game at 1-1. Both sides had great team work and possession of the ball, giving their sides confidence and momentum. It was a strong defensive showing from freshman MacGuire Weaver and junior Cole Foresman playing the full 90 minutes and making some good stops in the run of play. Despite noth teams' best efforts, the final whistle blew and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Cougars will now head to Kansas to take on Newman University on Saturday September 14 at 9 a.m. MST.
