Cougars Narrowly Fall at Eastern New Mexico

PORTALES, NM- Colorado Christian hit the road for a Sunday afternoon matchup at Eastern New Mexico. An early goal from the Greyhounds held up as CCU narrowly fell 1-0.

Justine Moreau got off the first shot of the game that went just high, but moments later ENMU struck for a goal to take the early lead. The pressure intensified from CCU as Ava Dinverno ripped a shot on goal to force a save. Hannah Mares missed high and Cora Keith took a shot as well that went high as the half ended with the hosts clinging to a 1-0 advantage.

Mares forced a save in the first five minutes of the half, and Capri Dewing got off a pair of shots with one forcing another save from the Greyhounds keeper. The pressure continued but CCU could not find the back of the net on shots from Jessie Sims and Dinverno. Dewing forced yet another save, and Sims got off another shot on goal but the ball could not find its way home as the final whistle blew on a 1-0 defeat despite a flurry of chances from the Cougars.

CCU will now return home to start RMAC play against Black Hills State September 27 at 3 p.m. MST.
