Justine Moreau Goal in Final Minutes Secures Win in RMAC Opener

LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian opened RMAC play at Trailblazer Stadium on Friday afternoon with a matchup against Black Hills State University. After a close battle the Cougars got a goal in the final minutes to claim the 2-1 win. 

The match started off quick with the Cougars handling the ball with great skill and building ball possession. Justine Moreau won the ball back on the wing and played a great cutback pass to Noelle Mingo who made the right foot finish to give the Cougars the 1-0 lead early. Ava Dinverno won a freekick and put up a nice attempt, but the Black Hills goalkeeper was ready. CCU was fully attacking in the first half of the game, giving a lot of pressure and getting 11 shots, six on target. The Yellowjackets would get a fair amount of chances and a mistouch from the Cougars gave the Yellowjackets the ball to equalize the game 1-1. Both teams would get chances, but the ref would blow the whistle for halftime with both teams tied 1-1. 

The second half would start with Black Hills gaining a lot of momentum, pressing high and giving CCU a good half. Danel Hach would get involved with a shot towards goal saved by the keeper. Both teams would slow down to regain some energy and build up possession. Black Hills would come very close on a few corner kicks and would get off five shots in the half. Freshman defender Taylor Tobolski would try her chance from distance a few times but couldn't get it on target. As the game entered its' final minutes. CCU won a corner kick, the first cross was punched away but Moreau found the loose ball and put the ball in the back of the net to give the Cougars the 2-1 lead with two minutes left. One final chance for Black Hills would be handled by Alana Lopp and the final whistle blew and the Cougars claimed their first conference win and home win of the season. 

CCU overall got 19 shots in the game, putting up an impressive offensive game. The win also gives head coach Caleb Cole his first conference win.

Colorado Christian will hit the road to play crosstown rivals Regis University on September 29 at 1:00 p.m. MST.
