Four Goal Onslaught Powers Cougars to Victory Over Hardrockers

LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian continued their homestand on Wednesday night with a matchup against South Dakota Mines under the lights at Trailblazer Stadium. Using a dominant offensive performance, the Cougars rolled their way to a 4-0 victory over the Hardrockers in one of their final tuneups before RMAC play.

The offense for the Cougars struck early as Lucca Casci put in a perfect corner that found Gabe Roloff in the 18 yard box. The graduate student expertly flicked the ball on goal with his head and found the top left corner for his first goal of the season. With a lead eight minutes in, CCU continued to pressure as Casci forced a save with a shot on goal. Shane Donnelly put a shot on goal late in the half that was saved as the teams went to halftime with the Cougars ahead 1-0.

CCU started the second half on fire as Caleb Dodge linked up with Lucas Peruzo who slotted the ball home for the 2-0 advantage. Moments later, Peruzo scored on the double as he took a cross from Daniel Garciacano and blasted the ball past the keeper for a lightning fast 3-0 lead. With a comfortable advantage in hand, the defense settled in and continued to shut down South Dakota Mines. One more goal came in the 82nd as Tiago Gomes ripped a ball from outside the box and slotted it home for the 4-0 Cougar lead. The game came to a close as CCU played excellent team soccer under the lights to move their record to 2-1-4.

Peruzo was clinical as he notched his third and fourth goals of the season, while Roloff picked up his first of the year. The defense was stellar, allowing just one shot on goal as they kept the clean sheet with keeper Jailon Gillespie

The Cougars will hit the road for a non-conference matchup with Adams State on September 29 at 12 p.m. MST.
