Cougars Pick Up Massive Road Win at CSU Pueblo

PUEBLO, CO- Colorado Christian traveled to take on CSU Pueblo on Thursday night looking to get back on track in RMAC play. They did just that with a balanced offensive attack as they surged to an 83-72 victory over the hosts in an impressive showing.

Bradley Land began a stellar night with a layup 15 seconds into the game, and Shaylen Woodberry sank a three-pointer for the early lead. Tate Odvody followed with a three of his own while another Land layup made it 10-5 Cougars. The teams battled back and forth as Nathaniel Law converted a three-point play and a jumper for the 17-15 lead. A three from Law and a layup from Schafer Reichart saw CCU jump ahead 24-21 midway through the half.

The three-pointers continued to fall for CCU as Land and Lincoln Cantrall connected to put their team ahead seven. Odvody got several shots to go as he continued to have a huge impact on the game. A late surge from the Thunderwolves sent the teams to halftime with the Cougars leading 40-38.

Land continued to dominate the game early in the second half, splashing in a three and then slamming home a dunk to put his team ahead again. Woodberry had a big sequence as he nailed a three-pointer and then was fouled from beyond the arc the next possession and sank all three from the strip for a 53-46 advantage. Another Cantrall three had CCU up 10, and Odvody restored that lead with a jumper for the 62-52 lead with a little under 10 to go.

Odvody then cashed a three as the lead stayed at 10, and Bobby McWard continued the barrage from deep with a three of his own to stretch the lead to 15. The Thunderwolves rallied to bring the game within 7 points with 3:20 to play, but things never got closer as CCU hit their free throws down the stretch to pull away for a crucial 83-72 victory on the road.

The offense saw a number of key contributions, led by Land with 20 points and 3 steals. Odvody followed with 18 points while Law poured in 12. Promise Idiaru was strong with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Cougars have a week to prepare for their matchup at MSU Denver on January 16 at 8 p.m. MST.
