LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian battled their crosstown rivals Regis University in a hard fought match on Friday afternoon at Trailblazer Stadium. After a scoreless first half, the Rangers managed to put one into the back of the net in the second half to earn a 1-0 victory.
Regis was on the front foot early, controlling possession and forcing keeper
Campbell Wolfgram to make several early saves.
Lucas Peruzo had a shot sail high later in the half, and the Cougars defensive backline stood strong as they managed to take things to halftime with the score level at 0-0.
CCU was in good form in the second half, continuing to play strong defense and pushing up the field more. In the 70th minute of play, Regis broke through as a long cross was headed in from short range for the 1-0 lead.
Salvador Fernandes had a good look sail just high, while
Mac Weaver had a go that deflected wide. The best chance for the Cougars came in the 87th, but the shot from
Benjamin Brown narrowly missed right as the Rangers held on for the 1-0 victory.
CCU will be back in action on October 19 at home against South Dakota Mines at 1:30 p.m. MDT.
