LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian closed their homestand on Sunday with a matchup against South Dakota Mines. In a high scoring affair, CCU battled to a 3-3 draw with the Hardrockers as they tied their opponent from South Dakota for the second time this season.
South Dakota Mines scored first in the 21st minute as a corner bent its way into the goal for the 1-0 lead. CCU wasted little time in their response, equalizing just two minutes later as a pass from
Dylan Hall was slotted home by
Salvador Fernandes. Late in the half, Colorado Christian took the lead as another cross from out wide this time from
Avery Hipps was controlled and blasted home by Fernandes for his second goal of the game. The score remained 2-1 heading to the break.
The Hardrockers leveled things in the 54th as the score stood at 2-2 early in the half. In the 64th, it was the Cougars who regained the lead as a corner was headed into the middle by
Cole Foresman.
Bodie Curtis left a pass for
Tiago Gomes who hammered his shot home to give his team the 3-2 advantage. An unfortunate defensive miscue in the 70th allowed SDM to score their third goal of the game, and things remained deadlocked until the final whistle in the 3-3 draw.
CCU held a slight 5-4 edge in shots on goal, and they took three corners throughout the game.
The Cougars will now head to #22 UCCS for a 7:30 p.m. MDT matchup on October 23 in Colorado Springs.
