COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- The Cougars headed south to take on UCCS under the lights on Thursday evening. The Mountain Lions took a 1-0 lead to the break off a PK, but
Tiago Gomes equalized in the second half with an absolute screamer to give his team a well earned point as the teams drew 1-1.
Gomes gave some foreshadowing of what was to come as he pressured early with a saved shot on goal.
Campbell Wolfgram stepped up with several saves, and in the 40th minute, a controversial takedown in the box resulted in a penalty kick that UCCS slotted home for the 1-0 lead at halftime.
Looking for the equalizer, a moment of brilliance in the 62nd minute of play tied things for the Cougars.
Dylan Hall clipped a ball to Gomes, who dribbled away from a crowd of Mountain Lion defenders and struck a low screamer that tucked inside the left post to shock the hosts with an incredible goal.
Lucas Peruzo was denied moments later, and
Benjamin Brown forced a save as well with a rip on goal. UCCS pushed late as a shot caromed off the left post, but the Cougar defense and Wolfgram stood tall in the final minutes to pick up a well earned point with the 1-1 draw.
All four of Colorado Christians' shots were on goal, and Wolfgram notched six saves.
Next up for CCU is a trip to take on #11 CSU Pueblo on October 26 at 2 p.m. MDT. The Thunderwolves were upset in the final 10 seconds 3-2 by MSU Denver in their contest tonight.
