PUEBLO, CO- The Cougars headed south to take on #11 CSU Pueblo on Sunday afternoon. In a highly competitive matchup, CCU went toe to toe with the Thunderwolves but eventually fell in the end by a final score of 3-2.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 10th minute as they quickly grabbed a 1-0 advantage.
Cole Foresman forced a save in the 25th minute with a shot on goal, but the teams went to the break with CSU Pueblo on top 1-0.
CCU upped their offensive pressure in the second half as
Iasonas Nikolaidis had a shot on goal saved in the 57th. The pressure paid off in the 59th minute as the Cougars earned a penalty kick, and
Salvador Fernandes buried the PK to level the game at 1-1. The Thunderwolves were able to answer with two quick goals in the 63rd and 64th minutes of play as they seized control 3-1.
Tiago Gomes was able to bring the Cougars within 3-2 as he buried a goal in the 88th minute but it was not quite enough in a 3-2 setback.
The Cougars next game will be the resumption of their postponed match at Fort Lewis from October 3, with kickoff at Trailblazer Stadium set for 6:30 p.m. MDT.
