LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars faced off against a strong Regis squad on Sunday afternoon at Trailblazer Stadium. CCU took the fight to the Rangers, pressuring early and often as the teams ended in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes of hard fought play.
From the jump CCU was in attack mode as a good look from
Noelle Mingo was heading in before a strong save from the Regis keeper.
Sadie Robertson and
Ava Dinverno had shots moments later, while a Dinvernon strike later in the half was saved. The barrage continued as
Sophia Tagge had several shots saved, and
Justine Moreau and Dinverno nearly scored but were denied as halftime arrived with the score sitting at 0-0.
Moreau had another early look on goal that was stopped before
Issy Taussig tallied a save of her own for the Cougars. Despite feeling in control, Regis was able to make a chance count as a pass into the box was collected and slotted home for the 1-0 lead. CCU intensified their pressure even more, and a pass from Dinverno into the box found the foot of Tagge who blasted an emphatic shot into the goal to level things at 1-1 in the 80th minute. Moments later
Brooke Dunham had an incredible look unmarked in the box, and she ripped her shot far post only to see the Rangers keeper make an unreal save to keep the game tied. Tagge had a strong opportunity saved as well, and late in the match a Rangers striker hit her shot off the woodwork as things went final with a 1-1 result.
CCU led in shots 20-15 and 10-9 in shots on goal. Taussig made eight saves on the day, while the hosts had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Cougars will host their final home regular season game and celebrate Senior Day on November 26 with an 11 a.m. MDT matchup with New Mexico Highlands.
