LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars continued their homestand on Halloween morning at Trailblazer Stadium as they took on Colorado Mesa. A four goal first half from the Mavericks was too much to overcome as CCU fell 4-2.
CMU struck early, scoring a little over a minute into the contest off a corner kick. They would take a 2-0 lead in the 10th minute and led 3-0 after another goal with a little under 15 minutes played.
Dylan Hall provided a spark as he collected a loose ball near the top of the box and ripped it top shelf to cut into the lead with his second goal of the season.
Lucas Peruzo pressured quickly after with a shot on goal, but the Mavericks were able to respond with their fourth goal of the half in the 27th minute, and the two teams went to the break with the visitors on top 4-1.
The Cougars played a much stronger second half, holding the Mavericks scoreless in the period. The offense pressured heavily, forcing several saves before they broke through.
Casey DeVito stole a ball on a slide and popped back to his feet to find space and blast home his first collegiate goal to make it 4-2. The defenses set in from there, and despite their best efforts, CCU fell in the end 4-2.
Colorado Christian will play their final home game of the regular season as they celebrate their seniors on November 2 with a tilt against Westminster at 1:30 p.m. MDT.
