LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian hosted North American on Friday evening in their home opener at the CCU Event Center. The Cougars outlasted the Stallions in a battle as they claimed the victory 69-64.
Joshua Reid scored the first home points of the season with a jumper, and he continued his scoring ways with a layup moments later.
Bobby McWard entered and drilled consecutive three-pointers to put CCU up 14-11, and
Pierce Bazil got a layup to go as the game remained close.
Porter Bazil connected for a three, while another Reid layup had the Cougars ahead 33-28. A late run from the Stallions sent them to the halftime break narrowly on top 34-33.
Porter started the second half strong with a layup, and McWard nailed another three-pointer as the score stood tied at 38-38. A strong offensive board and layup by
Garrett Poelman sent CCU ahead by four, while Poelman continued with a three-point play as the Cougars led 45-38.
A Reid jumper grew the advantage to 12 points, and they kept the lead throughout. Reid got a layup to go as CCU led 63-53 with 2:!5 to go. North American would make it close late, pulling to within two with 25 seconds left, but Pierce sealed it with a pair of late free throws for the 69-64 victory.
Pierce was stellar all night, scoring a team high 21 points with eight rebounds and a steal. Reid scored 16 points while Porter chipped in 10. Poelman had three assists and eight boards, while the Cougars as a team had eight steals.
Colorado Christian will be back in action at home on November 22 against Kansas Christian College at 3 p.m. MST.
