LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian returned home on Tuesday for a matchup with CSU Pueblo inside the CCU Event Center. The Cougars surged ahead by 12 at the half and never looked back, limiting the Thunderwolves offense to claim a 60-47 victory.
Schafer Reichart got the scoring started for his team with an early three-pointer, and
Jacob Everson continued the hot shooting from beyond the arc with another three.
Nathaniel Law put in a tough layup and followed up with a three of his own to put CCU ahead 11-9.
Bobby McWard got a layup and three-pointer to fall as the Cougars led 19-16 midway through the half.
Tate Odvody and
CJ Barnes got in on the action with a layup and jumper, while a Promise idiaru layup saw the hosts jump ahead 28-20. McWard then splashed a three to extend the lead to 11, and an Everson jumper saw CCU take a solid 33-21 lead to the half.
CSU Pueblo fought to climb their way back into the game to start the second half, scoring 8 straight points to cut the deficit to four at 33-29. A free throw from the visitors made it a three point game with 13:57 to go, but that was as close as CSUP would get. A McWard three and
Shaylen Woodberry layup pushed the lead back to 10, and the lead stood at 44-36 with a little over 10 minutes to play.
Idiaru got the crowd on their feet with a big two handed ham off the feed from Reichart, and Barnes slammed home another dunk from Odvody to make it 52-42. CJ continued his strong close to the game with a layup and jumper to push the lead to 12, and a pair of late free throws from Everson salted things away for the 60-47 victory for CCU.
A balanced offensive attack was led by Everson with 14 points and McWard with 11. Barnes and Law had 8 apiece while Reichart finished with 7 and 4 assists. With the win, CCU now sit at 6-9 in RMAC play and currently sit in ninth at a game and a half out of eighth place and a tournament spot.
The Cougars will now get ready for a pivotal matchup at UCCS on February 15 at 3 p.m. MST.
