Cougars Upset Roadrunners 61-49 on Senior Night to Conclude Season

LAKEWOOD, CO- With the final game of the 2024-25 season, the Cougars looked to upset 2 seeded MSU Denver to end their season on a high note. Seniors Bradley Land, Tanner Hecht, Schafer Reichart, Jacob Everson, and Shaylen Woodberry were all honored before the game.

The 5 seniors got the start as they looked to end their time at CCU on a high note. Tip off started and both teams were showing impressive defense early. The Cougars were off to a cold start from the field until Schafer Reichart scored 5 straight points to give the team momentum. The game started to speed up offensively for the Cougars as Bradley Land connected on a highly contested three in the corner. With a combination of blocks, steals, and strong defensive rotation, the Cougars were able to prevent the Roadrunners from scoring easy baskets. Lincoln Cantrell checked into the game for the Cougars and immediately hit back-to-back threes to put the Cougars up 12. The Cougars looked like a well-oiled machine both offensively and defensively resulting in a 36-21 lead heading into half. Bradley Land tallied 8 points in the first half and Promise Idiaru led the team with 11 on spectacular shooting.

The Cougars were off to a slow start in the second half as the Roadrunners went on an 11-2 run. Shots were not falling early, however, the big lead in the first half helped the Cougars maintain their advantage. Solid defense from the Cougars and poor shooting from the Roadrunners allowed the Cougars to establish their offense. The Roadrunners were an abysmal 4-18 from three while the Cougars were 7-24. Down the stretch the Cougars forced two clutch turnovers to maintain a 6-point lead with just under 3 minutes left. Tate Odvody was left open in the left corner and hit a dagger three with 1:57 left in the game. The Cougars hold onto the lead to take home a massive upset to end the season.

Idiaru led the team with an impressive 16 point, 8 rebounds night that included 2 blocks and a steal as well. Land joined his teammate in double digits with 11 points and 3 rebounds.

The Cougars close the season 2024-2025 season with an overall record of 13-15 and a 9-11 mark in RMAC play.
