COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- The Cougars headed south to take part in the RMAC Indoor Championships February 28-March 1 to take on top competition from the conference. The team saw some stellar performances led by a podium finish from
Shannon King in the mile and a fourth place finish from
Matthew Storer in the 5k.
Tara Smoker began on Friday by qualifying for the 400m finals with a 58.92. She finished in 7th overall in the event with a 59.36 in the finals. King was stellar in the mile, claiming third place and a spot on the podium with a 5:01.75.
Kate Miller ran a 5:33.70 in the mile.
Elana Sutton took part in several events, beginning with a 15th place finish in the pentathlon. She followed with a 32'4" throw in the shot put. King ran in the 800m finals, placing 12th with a 2:21.55.
Ashley Vil closed in the triple jump, posting a 36' 6 ½" for 8th place.
For the men,
Jeremy Miller took part in the mile and took 13th with a 4:28.76. A trio of Cougars took part in both the 3k and 5k, and
Matthew Storer led the way with a 6th place finish in the 3000m with a run of 8:38.27.
Sean McCauley ran a time of 9:01.06, and
Klay Grant closed with a 9:13.00. Storer finished fourth in the 5k with a time of 14:53.48, and McCauley ran a 15:26.24.
Caleb Hershey ran a 15:48.86
With the NCAA Indoor Championships coming up, the Cougars will wait and see who has punched their ticket to compete among the best in the nation in Indianapolis March 13-15.
