Cougars Explode for Record-Breaking Week in Golden

Golden, CO – The Cougars traveled to nearby Colorado School of Mines, competing both Wednesday and Saturday. The week saw strong results for the Cougars once again, several records falling as CCU prepare for the tri-meet week next week.

Janelle DeBoer, the consistent headline of late, underwent the 100 meter for the first time, cruising to a victory and record breaking race yet again. Getting off the line strong from the gun, DeBoer would fly to a 12.31 mark, winning the race and running the 2nd fastest 100 in Cougar history. This serves as DeBoers 8th record between indoor and outdoor, writing her name in the books nearly every time she touches the track.

This leaves DeBoer sitting 16th on the RMAC list, another option for DeBoer to choose from come time for the RMAC outdoor championships.

Hannah Zugich would take on the 400 Hurdles, seeing an excellent day and moving her name along in the record books as well. Already the 4th fastest hurdler ever for the Cougars, Zugich would power through for a 1:07.24 mark, the second fastest 400H in CCU history. Zugich currently sits 15th on the RMAC list in the 400 Hurdles, looking to continue to build momentum as she looks to make a statement at conference.

The likes of Laken Meier, Janelle DeBoer, Ella Brinkman, and Bella Fletcher would come together to run the 4x100, managing an extremely fast time of 48.99. This serves as the third fastest 4x100 in Cougars history as the sprints side continues to break record after record this track season.

Elana Sutton would have herself a day, breaking the outdoor school record in the High Jump, and her own school record in the Shot Put. Utilizing all three jumps Sutton would make her final her best. Sutton would bound to a 5'1" mark, breaking the outdoor school record, previously held by Grace McCartney. The record breaking jump would only be part of the story, as Sutton would go on to throw a Shot Put mark of 39' 9.75". Sutton previously had the outdoor record of 39' 2.5", smashing her own record by over 7 inches.

This leaves Sutton 16th on the RMAC list in the High Jump, 12th in Shot Put, and 13th in the Heptathlon. Continuing to progress in all facets of the field, Sutton will continue to build towards the RMAC Championships and test just how far she can push the CCU standards on the field.

Brooke Frisk would similarly see an excellent day, jumping for the first time in her collegiate career. Frisk would jump to a mark of 4'9", tying teammate Saige Gomez for the 5th highest jump in Cougar outdoor history. With Frisk just beginning her career, she will continue to explore all that she can do with a more than encouraging start.

The Cougars will see a three-meet week this upcoming week, a crew traveling to race in California, with another group returning to Golden to race at Mines. Historical race Bryan Clay and Leopard Invitational in California are set for April 16-18th, with the Mines meet set for April 17-18th.
