Shannon King Makes Mile Finals, Matt Storer Closes Day in 5k

INDIANAPOLIS, IN- The 2025 NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field National Championships began on Friday at the Fall Creek Pavilion in Indianapolis as two Cougars took to the track. Shannon King started with the 9th best time after two heats in the mile to qualify for the finals on Saturday, while Matthew Storer closed the day with an 18th place finish in the 5k.

King began this afternoon in heat 2 of the highly competitive mile. After narrowly missing a spot in the indoor mile last year, the graduate student was determined to qualify this time around. She began the first lap in a tightly packed field, but a collision that caused two runners to fall gave King a window. She began to pick up her pace and kick the final two laps, ultimately tying for third in her heat with a run of 4:46.77. The excellent run gave Shannon a tie for the eighth fastest time across two heats and earned her a spot in the finals on Saturday.

Storer came next in an elite field of 18 runners in the 5000m. Matt battled hard in the event, but it was not his day as he finished in 18th place with a time of 14:35.70. The field went at a blistering pace as the eventual winner Romain Legendre from Adams State set a meet and facility record in the event. Storer will now prepare for the outdoor season as he looks for a return trip to Nationals in both the 5k and 10k.

King will run in the finals of the mile on March 15 at 1:15 p.m. MST as she looks to claim a National Title and garner First Team All American honors. Watch the finals here and tune in to live stats here
