INDIANAPOLIS, IN- Shannon King closed the indoor track & field season at the National Championships on Saturday as she competed in the finals of the highly competitive mile. In a field of 9 elite runners, King ran her personal best time as she blazed her way to a First Team All-American honor with a 4th place finish.
After qualifying for the finals of the mile with a time of 4:46.77 in prelims on Thursday, King faced an extremely talented field on Saturday. Pacing herself for the first few laps, Shannon kicked it into gear on the final two laps, picking off her opponents as she pulled into 5th. She then made a move to the outside and raced past another competitor, closing strong down the final stretch with a great final lap to claim 4th place with a personal best and school record time of 4:43.14. It was an incredible weekend and race from King as she garnered First Team All-American honors for her excellent efforts.
King closed the indoor track & field season with a bang as the Cougars now set their sights on the outdoor season. CCU will compete at their first outdoor meet in Pueblo March 21-22 at the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Invitational.
