WICHITA, KS | GOLDEN, CO- The Cougars split up and competed in Kansas and Colorado at the KT Woodman and Kit Mayer Classics this weekend. A victory in the 10k by
Matthew Storer and a second place finish by
Shannon King in the 1500m highlighted a strong weekend for the Cougars in both states.
The women began in Kansas as
Molly Wilkinson and
Emma Flowers ran in the 1500m with times of 5:26.26 and 5:31.71. Five Cougars took part in the 5k with
Alayna Wallace leading the way with an 18:21.63.
In Golden at the Kit Mayer Classic hosted by Mines,
Tara Smoker led her team in the 100m dash with a 12.49. Smoker paced her team in the 200m as well, running a time of 25.93. King was tremendous in the 1500m, running an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 4:31.28 to place second and put herself at 15th on the list currently.
Hannah Zugich ran in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:09.23.
Ashley Vil and
Laken Meier competed in the long jump, posting marks of 5.05m and 4.92m respectively. Vil also took part in the triple jump, placing fifth with a leap of 11.50m.
Elana Sutton participated in the heptathlon, scoring 2.958 points.
The men in Kansas began with five runners competing in the 5000m with
Nico Ramirez leading the way with a 15:16.04.
Mathew Olech ran in the 3000m steeplechase, posting a time of 9:36.97.
A trio of Cougars got the men started at Mines in the 100m, and
Jonah Beard paced his team with a time of 11.46. Beard led CCU in the 200m as well with a 22.85.
Tate Fletcher ran a strong race in the 1500m, posting a time of 4:05.14. The highlight of the night came in the 10k, where Storer ran an excellent race. The Colorado native won the race at the line, finishing with a time of 29:59.24 to put himself at sixth on the NCAA Provisional Qualifying List.
The Cougars will compete next in California at the Bryan Clay Invitational April 16-18.
