PUEBLO, CO- The NCAA National Championships began on Thursday at the CSU Pueblo Thunderbowl as
Shannon King took part in the 1500m followed by the nightcap of
Matthew Storer in the 10k. Both athletes ran their hearts out as they closed excellent seasons in Pueblo.
King got things started in the highly anticipated 1500m prelim. The race was very up and down as runners were sprinting up and fading just as fast throughout the entirety of the race. Shannon held her own and got as high as third place after three, but in the end she closed in 10th in the heat with a time of 4:48.56. King closes an absolutely storied career at CCU as she made eight appearances at Nationals, brought home four All-American titles and twice won Female Athlete of the Year at CCU. Shannon displayed humility, poise and excellence throughout her time at Colorado Christian and left a legacy that will be hard to live up to in the years to come.
Storer closed the night out as he competed in the 10,000m against 21 other competitors. Matt battled throughout the entire race, sitting in seventh after the first few laps. As the race wore on the battle grew harder and Storer ended up coming in 17th as he closed with a time of 31:23.00. Matt still has one more season left of eligibility and will be back next year to add to his already incredible legacy he has built at CCU.
Congratulations to
Shannon King and
Matthew Storer on incredible seasons that culminated at the NCAA National Championships!
