Cougars Face Bulldogs in Second Game of the Season

LAKEWOOD, CO- The Colorado Christian Cougars battled the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs Saturday morning at Lakewood Memorial Field. Both teams entered the game undefeated after victories on Thursday, but SWOSU came out on top with a 1–0 win after a defensive showdown.

Freshman Mia Mares opened the game with a beautiful early save in the third minute of play. The Bulldogs created another goal scoring opportunity in the 12th minute but center midfielder Noelle Mingo denied it with a powerful defensive header.

Justine Moreau had a near goal 15 minutes into play, following an impressive offensive push. Junior Brooke Dunham fired another shot on goal just four minutes later.

Throughout the game the Cougar's back line remained composed and dominant. Center-backs, Sadie Robertson and Kira Merrell had a commanding presence over the Bulldogs attack. Late in the first half, Merrell executed a decisive slide tackle stopping a dangerous play, earning the Cougars a goal kick.

The Bulldogs broke through with a goal scored by Braelee Epp with 11 minutes left in the first half. The Cougars were able to hold off all other offensive attacks for the remainder of the half
In the second half, keeper Mares came up big with a string of saves, highlighted by a phenomenal stop in the 13th minute of play.

Despite several offensive attempts the Cougars were unable to get on the board. Their next match will be a home game played on September 14th against the University of Texas at Dallas at 12:30 p.m. MST.
