DURANGO, CO- Colorado Christian traveled south on Thursday to take on the league leader Fort Lewis inside Whalen Gymnasium in Durango. The Cougars battled hard, but the Skyhawks proved too much in a 73-56 setback.
The hosts came out firing, scoring the first ten points of the game before
Joshua Reid drilled a three-pointer to stop the momentum.
Pierce Bazil converted a three point play, while a Reid layup made it 16-10 midway through the half.
Rob Matos connected on a three to cut into the deficit, but a long run from Fort Lewis put them in control despite a
Porter Bazil dunk, giving them a 34-22 lead at the break.
Andrew Reichart got a tip in to go, and
Jimmy House dropped back-to-back threes to cut the lead to just 11 for the Skyhawks. The hosts went on another run from there to take a 53-36 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
A Reid layup and House three cut the gap to 13 points at 54-41, but that was as close as the Cougars would get as Fort Lewis pulled away for a 73-56 victory.
Reid led the offense with 11 points, followed by House with nine on a trio of three-pointers. Porter pulled down 10 rebounds with two steals.
The Cougars continue their road trip on Saturday with a trip to Alamosa to take on Adams State with tipoff set for 3 p.m. MST.
