CCU Downed at Adams State in High Scoring Affair

ALAMOSA, CO- CCU continued their roadtrip with a trip to take on Adams State on Saturday. It was a high scoring affair in Alamosa, but the Cougars came up short in a 94-80 defeat.

Pierce Bazil started hot with a layup 30 seconds into the contest followed by a three-pointer on his teams' next possession. The Grizzlies would go on a run from there to take a 16-6 lead, but layups from Pierce and Rob Matos cut the gap to six. Jared Looyd Jr. checked in and got a pair of layups to go, and a layup from Andrew Reichart kept things close. Porter Bazil splashed in a three as the score stood at 25-23 ASU.

Joshua Reid connected from deep as the shots began to pour in from the Cougars, and Pierce got a layup to go to make it a one point contest. Jimmy House continued his teams' hot shooting with a three, and a late layup from House sent the two squads to the break with the hosts on top 47-41.

The Grizzlies would go on a run to start the second half to go ahead 19, but Zachary Reed buried a three to quell the momentum. CCU began to climb back into things with another Reed three, a PJ Chambers jumper and a Garrett Poelman to cut the deficit to nine. Bobby McWard continued to rally his team, drilling a three to make the lead just six as momentum sat squarely with the Cougars.

Adams State was able to recover and respond to the big run from CCU, scoring seven straight to wrestle control back. Poelman got another layup to fall, and a layup from Andrew made it 8-069 with 6:12 to go. Another Poelman layup cut the deficit to single digits at 82-73, but that was as close as CCU would get the rest of the game as the Grizzlies closed out the visitors 94-80.

Andrew led his team with 15 points and seven rebounds, followed by Pierce with 13 points .

The Cougars will now set their sights on a matchup at Westminster University in Salt Lake City at 7:30 p.m. MST on January 29.
