Cougars Overwhelm Regis in Dominant Road Victory

DENVER, CO- Colorado Christian headed to nearby Regis to take on the Rangers in a must win conference matchup on Thursday night. Led by a program record tying eight three-pointers from Zachary Reed, the Cougars rolled to a 93-78 victory.

Porter Bazil hit a jumper 13 seconds into the contest, while Reed drilled his first three moments later. Schafer Reichart connected from deep, and a three-pointer from Lincoln Cantrall put CCU ahead 17-13. The Rangers battled back and a Reed three had the game tied at 22 midway through the half.

Reed stayed scorching hot with another three-pointer, but the defenses set in after that as neither team scored for over three minutes. The teams traded the lead from there before Pierce Bazil converted a three point play to put his team up 36-31 heading to halftime.

Reed came out firing to start the second half with a three, while Joshua Reid made a layup to put CCU on top by eight. A Reichart steal and feed to Pierce for the easy layup made it 48-38, and the Cougars continued to surge offensively as Reed hit back-to-back three-pointers for a 54-40 lead. Jimmy House connected from downtown on consecutive shots as the lead ballooned to 21 at 66-45.

The Cougars would cruise to the final buzzer from there, hitting consistent shots and never letting Regis back into the contest. Ezra Guest drained a three and House closed the scoring for the night with his third three-pointer to close out the convincing 93-78 victory.

Reed tied a program record for three-pointers in a game, going 8-11 from downtown to pour in 26 points to lead his team. Pierce scored 13 points with a team high 7 assists while Andrew Reichart joined his teammates in double digits with 10 points. As a team, the Cougars tied for the third most threes made in a game with 16 and shot it at a 48.5% clip from beyond the arc.

CCU will look to keep the momentum going as they make another short trip to MSU Denver on Saturday February 21 with tipoff slated for 3 p.m. MST.
