Boulder, CO - For the second time in the past month, the Cougars raced in Boulder, the meet seeing several PR's and multiple records broken. The races over the weekend saw many final pieces fit together as the team prepares for a final push in the last regular season indoor meet.
Seemingly the past theme over the previous 3 weeks,
Janelle DeBoer continued to take strides forward in a historic fashion. Racing the 200, DeBoer would break her own school record, flying to a 25.25 200 meter, winning her second 200 race in a row. In a much faster heat, DeBoer would start the short race chasing two girls in the lead, picking up speed around the bend and out pacing the rest of the heat the last 50 meters.
DeBoer now sits 10
th on the RMAC list, this race serving as a strong qualifier for the Championships in Gunnison. Having only raced three collegiate meets in total, DeBoer will look to find her stride one last time next week at UCCS before post-season.
Similarly,
Lorelei Daugherty and Aly Wagner would put together their second incredible performance in two weeks, coming off of a record breaking 5k race. Racing the 3k (1.86 miles) this week, Daugherty & Wagner showcased speed on demand, beating several D1 runners, Daugherty finishing 3
rd behind only two CU Boulder runners, Wagner coming in.6
th. A small field would go out in pure chaos, pushes and spikes being exchanged from the line. A slow start saw the two Cougars in the middle of the pack, a chaotic first mile seeing the pack run close together. With 3 laps to go, the girls executed their race plan perfectly, trusting the coaching staff as girls started to slow in front of them. Daugherty would have an excellent close, maneuvering through traffic, trailing several meters behind a runner from Wyoming. 300 meters to go, Daugherty would close the last 300 meter lap in a 56, outkicking Wyoming for a 3
rd place finish with a time of 10:29. Wagner would close short behind, finishing with a 10:36. From altitude these would be converted to 10:12 and 10:19 respectively.
Daugherty now sits right behind
Rachel Harpt on the RMAC list, sitting 21
st & 22
nd, 3 and 4 spots out of the Indoor Championships. Daugherty and Wagner sit 18
th & 19
th on the RMAC list for the 5k, both parties looking to make a final push next weekend to race the Championships in Gunnison.
Ella Brinkman continued her strong freshman campaign, jumping excellent yet again.
Ella Brinkman competed in the triple jump, jumping 11.25m (36'11"), her fourth of sixth jump. Brinkman broke her own record for the second furthest triple jump in CCU history.
This leaves Brinkman 11
th on the RMAC Indoor list, enough to serve as a qualifier for the Indoor Championships. Brinkman also sits 21
st on the Long Jump list, just looking on the outside of qualifying for conference. Next week at UCCS will no doubt serve as a golden opportunity to improve on the Triple Jump and jump a qualifier for Long Jump.
The Cougars will have a dual meet this weekend, a small crew traveling to Boston, the majority of the team competing at UCCS in the Springs. The meets will run February 13-14
th, the Cougars last regular season indoor meet before post-season.
