Hilo, Hawaii – Colorado Christian played their second match in Hawaii on Sunday afternoon. Despite a tough battle, the Cougars fell to the Vulcans 0-1, unable to find a late equalizer.
It was a slow start for the Cougars, as CCU recorded just one shot in the opening 45 minutes, coming in the 30th minute. Hawaii Hilo created several early opportunities, but
Kenzie Kunitz kept the Vulcans off the scoreboard with two saves in the first half. Despite the early pressure from Hawaii Hilo, the Cougars held strong defensively to send the game into halftime still deadlocked at 0-0.
Hawaii Hilo broke through just five minutes into the second half as the Vulcans found the back of the net in the 50
th minute.
A fire lit under their feet, CCU continued to battle for the equalizer, picking up energy and recording five shots in the second half.
Alexis Byrd created a couple of opportunities for the Cougars, including a shot on target in the 75th minute that was saved by Hawaii Hilo goalkeeper. Despite the increased efforts, the Vulcans would close out the game 1-0 over the Cougars.
Kenzie Kunitz made two saves in goal for the Cougars, while Colorado Christian finished the afternoon with six total shots and three corner kicks.
The Cougars will have their home opener on Friday, September 11
th against Nebraska Kearney. Looking to start their home stint on the right foot, kickoff is set for 11am at Trailblazer Stadium.
