Colorado Christian Women's Soccer put up a good fight against Western Oregon Thursday, but fell 2-1 in overtime against the Wolves of Western Oregon.
WOU controlled the first half of the Cougars' home opener, out-shooting CCU five to two. Colorado Christian's two were efficient, however, as one – a blast from
Meghan Troupe with five minutes left in the period – resulted in the game's first goal. CCU's first-half keeper
Shaya Lawrence saw just one shot on goal – a save for the senior from Littleton – in the first 45 minutes.
Â
The Cougar squad opened the second confident in their lead, but Western Oregon quickly gained momentum. The neutralizer came 25 minutes into the second period, as Western Oregon's Shelby Peterson took the shot that put the game at 1-1. Battling the rest of the second half, neither team could execute another goal.
Claire LaValley, Christian's goalie after the break, notched three saves in the remainder of regulation.
Â
The kick-off for over time came quickly, and within three and a half minutes Western Oregon was charging CCU's goal box. Unfortunately, in Colorado Christian's effort to defend their goal an own-goal was scored, moving the score to 2-1 and giving the Wolves the sudden death win.

Now 0-2-1 on the year, CCU will travel to UCCS on Sunday, September 13
th to battle for their first W. Game time is set for 11:00 am.
