Following a tough loss against Westminster College (2-1), the Colorado Christian Women's Soccer team traveled to Grand Junction, CO to compete against Colorado Mesa University. The game ended in the Mavericks favor with two goals to the Cougars one.
Goal-hungry freshman,
Kielli Jordan from New Orleans, LA had an amazing showing with five shots, three on goal, and one point for the board, assisted by Lauren Teres. CCU started the game strong scoring just five minutes into the game. The Mavericks did not take long to retaliate, with a charge to the Cougars goal, where Sarah Pope passed to Ashley Wallace who slid the ball in at five minutes and fifty-seven seconds.
The equalizer lasted through five shots on goal by Christian and six by Mesa.
Shaya Lawrence was able to save five for CCU, and J. Richmond-Buccola saved four for CMU. The seventh shot on goal for the Mavericks ended in a scoreboard change 2-1, with only ten minutes left in the second. Lauryn Lee passed a long ball through blue and gold's defense where Amanda Wenzel finished it in the left corner. Â In the last minutes of the game,
Kielli Jordan still fought for the tie, missing high, the Cougars last shot on goal.
At the end of the game, sophomore
Tristyn Hall shared the teams feelings on the season so far, "Today was the first game that we collectively played for ninety minutes, so it's unfortunate that we lost because we worked so hard and played so smart. I am thoroughly enjoying this season because of the motivational aspects and hard work that everyone brings to every practice and game". Â
Head Coach
Tammy McPherson piggy-backed on what
Tristyn Hall had to say, "I cannot stress enough how many things our players are doing well! We are consistently getting into the attacking third, and we are scoring goals, so the wins will come. We are proud of all our players and we are confident that their consistent growth and hard work will pay off".Â
Colorado Christian will be in Denver, CO on Friday, September 25th, playing against local rivals Metro State University. Kick-off is at 4:30 pm.
