Box Score The CCU Cougar Baseball team finished out the 4HIM Tournament in a big way, defeating the Braves from Ottawa University (KS) 11-3 in Cleburne, TX. The win brought the Cougars record back up to .500 on young the season.
The Cougars were led by redshirt sophomore
Luke Bote who was seeing the ball in slow motion on Saturday, going a perfect 4-4 at the plate with a game high four RBI's, scoring two runs of his own and stealing a base. Bote had an exceptional tournament at the plate, totaling six hits, one of which was a triple, five RBI's , three runs, drew two walks and struck out just one time in four games.
Senior
Austin Maltby also had a remarkable tournament at bat. After leading the Cougars to a win in the first game of their season on 2-3 hitting with five RBI's and three runs, including CCU's first grand slam of the season. Overall, Matlby racked up eight RBI's and four runs, with a triple and the previously mentioned grand slam.
On the last day of competition, the All-Tournament Team was announced. Two Cougars made the list that was announced immediately following the CCU game on Saturday.
Austin Maltby was an easy choice for the All-Tournament team and he was joined by senior right handed pitcher
Joey Loranger who threw five stellar innings against Tabor College, striking out nine and allowing just two hits and no earned runs.
The Cougars will travel to Riverside, CA, on February 15
th, 16
th, and 17
th, to take on the Lancers of California Baptist University for a three-game series.
