COLORADO SPRINGS – In their second meet of the Indoor Track and Field season, the Cougars put together a few more national standards.
Colorado Christian had four NCAA provisional qualifying times as they competed against UCCS and Westminster at UCCS Meet #3 on Saturday afternoon.
MENS RECAP
Sprints
Tyler Bradley notched the best time among Colorado Christian runners in the 60m race as he crossed the finish line in 7.09. Matthew Prahl also competed as he registered a time of 8.30 seconds. Two duo also competed in the 200m with Bradley posting a time of 22.75 while Prahl finished in 27.05.
Wilson Eike was welcomed to collegiate track and field as he crossed the finish line in the 400m race with a time of 57.81.
Distance
The mile was the apex of the meet for the program. The Cougars took three of the top four position as Josh Pierantoni, Nicholas Skinner and Trent Cochran placed first, second and fourth respectively and each posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time. Pierantoni finished in 4:16.70 with Skinner registering a time of 4:17.17. Cochran was right in the mix with a 4:21.95. All three times were altitude converted to the NCAA standard. Pierantoni also set the track record with his finish.
Hudson Majeski recorded a top five finish in the competitive race as the freshman finished in 4:27.70. Isaac Roberts (4:30.17) and Isaac Russo (4:34.67) took sixth and seventh respectively. Luke Meyer rounded out the top 10 crew with a time of 4:41.11
Aidan Day ran the 800m race for the third time in his career and posted a five-second personal best by running a 2:00.55 to place first in the event. Kyle Gee clipped the tape in 2:08.76 while Tanner James had a time of 2:12.68.
The tandem of Jeremy Miller and Nicholas Ramirez went first and second respectively in the 3000m run as Miller won with a time of 9:04.62 while Ramirez recorded a time of 9:15.49.
WOMENS RECAP
Sprints
Hannah George reset her school record that she set two weeks ago as she ran the 60m race in 8.03. Her time on Saturday was .05 seconds quicker than her time at the Crimson and Gold Invitational. Grace McCartney registered her first start of the season as she finished in 9.22. George also competed in the 200m race as she finished in 26.92.
Rachel Lucas competed in the 400m for the first time in her collegiate tenure, posting a time of 1:04.39 while Elizabeth Gueck registered a time of 1:10.71.
Distance
Shannon King posted her second consecutive first place finish in the 800m race as the freshman's time of 2:16.82 was nearly five seconds quicker than the runner-up. Her altitude converted time shaved nearly three seconds from that time which gave her an NCAA provisional mark. Paige Tack was the second best finisher in the event for Colorado Christian as she ran a 2:23.97.
Tessa Hooper was just behind Tack as Hooper ran a time of 2:25.19. Benisa Ellis competed in her first collegiate event as the first-year registered a time of 2:31.28.
The 3000m run was a busy one for the Cougars as the had four runners compete. Kenzie Hartwig tallied the top time as she completed the race in 11:48.84. Elisa Hernandez posted a time of 12:05.40 while Anna McLaughlin (12:13.93) and Beth Pierantoni (12:31.50) rounded out the field for the Cougars.
In the one mile race Elizabeth Mattson took top honors for the Cougars as she crossed the finish line in 5:32.34 with Callie Ketner coming just behind her in 5:32.37. Hannah Causey posted a time of 6:09.77.
Field Events
Winnie Spurlock posted her best long jump effort during her first jump as she measured a distance of 5.10m (16 feet, 8.78 inches). The sophomore was unable to record a distance during her four attempts in the triple jump.
QUOTABLE: "We had strong performances across many events today, and the results mark some important milestones for the program, but what stood out most was the competitive desire of everyone that had opportunity to compete today," said head coach Jon Poag.
UP NEXT: The Cougars take three weeks before their meet. They are scheduled to travel to Air Force on Friday, Feb, 19.
